Thanks to the generous support of numerous donors and organizations, the Y was able to construct a new facility opened in May 2008.  Our Y facility helps the organization focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE - OCTOBER 2ND
Due to an overwhelming response for the Yard Sale that was held in late July, the Southside Virginia Family YMCA will be hosting another Community Yard Sale on Saturday, October 2, 2010.  Only 50 spots - get registered today!  $10 per spot (size of a parking space).  You may purchase more than one spot if necessary.

Y CAR WASH TO SUPPORT AQUADEMICS A HUGE SUCCESS!
The Y would like to thank everyone who participated in the Y car wash for AquaDemics this past Saturday.  It was truly a great event and we would like to thank everyone who volunteered!  The event was a huge success and we raised over $600 for AquaDemics, a program that helps teach 2nd graders at the P.E. School System water safety skills free of charge! 

Y TO PARTICIPATE IN JUMPSTART'S READ FOR THE RECORD

Join to Y on October 7, 2010 as we participate, for the second year, in Read for the Record.  Help us as we all attempt to break a record of having over 2.5 million people reading the same book, on the same day, all over the WORLD!  This year, we will be reading The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats, to all youth at the Southside Virginia Family YMCA.

Jumpstart's Read for the Record Campaign helps combine resources to help combat the early literacy crisis.

SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA FAMILY YMCA TO HOST 2ND CULTURAL AWARENESS DAY ON NOVEMBER 18TH

Help us celebrate International Education Week (IEW) by participating in our 2nd Annual Cultural Awareness Day at the Southside Virginia Family YMCA!  The worldwide celebration of IEW (November 15-19, 2010) offers a unique opportunity to reach out to people in every nation to develop a broader understanding of world cultures and languages, and to reiterate the conviction that enduring friendships and partnerships created through international eduation and exchange are important for a secure future for all countries.

We would LOVE for you to share YOUR culture with us!  This includes your history, government, language, food, holidays, school systems, traditions, etc.  Please contact Jennifer Pillow to learn more information about how you can be involved and make a difference!

HOLIDAY CLASSIC 5K, CHILI COOK-OFF & GOLF BALL DROP

The Southside Virginia Family YMCA is the place to be on Saturday, December 11, 2010!  The morning's activities will include the 4th Annual Holiday Classic 5K Run and 1-Mile Youth Run, followed by a Chili Cook-Off and a finale "Golf Ball" Drop.  For more information CLICK HERE >>
