Come See What’s New at Your Y: Southside Virginia Family YMCA Announces Fall Open House

Southside Virginia Family YMCA

The Southside Virginia Family YMCA is inviting the community to “Come See What’s New at Your Y” during its Fall Open House on Saturday, September 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The free community celebration will give families and residents an opportunity to experience the Y, try the new pickleball court and get a first look at the newly remodeled Farmville Rotary Multi-Purpose Room, powered by Lowe’s. The event will also feature children’s activities, food and opportunities to explore what the Y has to offer. Those who choose to join the YMCA during the event will pay no joining fee.

At noon, the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce will join YMCA leaders and community partners for an official ribbon cutting celebrating the new pickleball court and remodeled multipurpose room.

Both projects demonstrate what is possible when local organizations, businesses, foundations and individuals invest in opportunities that strengthen the community.

The YMCA’s new pickleball court was made possible through the generous support of several key partners and donors, including a $25,000 grant from the Dominion Energy Foundation, contributions from Vannoy Construction, and support from Trey and Kristin Gee and their family foundation. The new court expands opportunities for people of different ages and abilities to be active, connect with others and enjoy one of the country’s fastest-growing recreational activities at the Y.

The remodeled multipurpose room reflects that same spirit of community partnership. The Farmville Rotary Club provided financial support for the project, while Lowe’s donated appliances and other products for the newly renovated space. In recognition of that support, the space will be known as the Farmville Rotary Multi-Purpose Room, powered by Lowe’s.

“This Open House is about more than showing off a new court or a remodeled room. It’s an opportunity to bring our community together and celebrate what can happen when local organizations, businesses, foundations and neighbors invest in one another,” said Sharon Stiteler, VP of The YMCA of Central Virginia. “We are incredibly grateful to the Dominion Energy Foundation, Vannoy Construction, Trey and Kristin Gee and their family foundation, the Farmville Rotary Club and Lowe’s for investing in the Y and the people we serve. Their generosity is helping us create more opportunities for people to connect, be active and thrive.”

Throughout the Open House, guests can explore the YMCA and learn more about opportunities for children, adults and families. Information about the newly relaunched YMCA afterschool care will be available, and community members will also have an opportunity to sign up to receive YMCA news and updates.

The Fall Open House is free and open to the public. YMCA membership is not required to attend.
