LIVESTRONG® at the Southside Family YMCA Returns to Support Cancer Survivors in Southside Virginia

The Southside Virginia Family YMCA will launch its LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program on June 2, offering cancer survivors in Southside Virginia a supportive, research-based opportunity to regain strength, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with community.

This 12-week, no-cost, program will meet twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30–3:00 p.m., providing participants with a safe, welcoming environment to improve their physical and emotional well-being following a cancer diagnosis.

Developed in partnership with the LIVESTRONG Foundation, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a nationally recognized program specifically designed for adult cancer survivors. The program focuses on strengthening the whole person—not just physical recovery, but also mental resilience and social connection.

“We’re proud to bring LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA back to our community. This program gives cancer survivors a place to rebuild their strength, but just as importantly, it gives them a place to feel supported, understood, and not alone,” said [Beth Zeisig, Operations Director].

Participants work in small groups under the guidance of certified instructors trained in cancer survivorship, engaging in tailored exercise routines that build strength, increase endurance, and reduce fatigue. Just as important, the program fosters a sense of belonging—connecting individuals who share similar experiences and understand the journey.

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is open to adult cancer survivors who have completed treatment or are in recovery, with medical clearance. The program is offered at no-cost to participants.
